I was going to post some sketchbook pages and I couldn´t resist and had to play around a little bit. Just trying out new things. It felt really well doing these, letting go.
Holiday´s over, but man was it great. Forest, sauna, beer, swimming naked in the lake, cottages, smoke sauna, beer, rowing boat, fishing, party, friends, sun, roof, time-lapse, friends, guitar, campfire, flesh-country, kossu, soumi. Thanks to all of you who made it possible.
I just bought a scaner, so expect a croqui dump soon. Here´s a little something
Afternoon doodle. Started laying out some abstract shapes see if they suggested me something.
The file ended up being huge. Over 7000 pixels high. It felt really nice being able to paint in some details without any pixelation. I kept going back and forth between PS and Artrage.
So I finally started going to a life drawing course. And boy is it a humbling experience. Ive been going for two days with Mr. Peter and Mr. Borja. The model does 2 min poses for an hour which is what I really need.
I read a chapter of the Stanchfield notes the second day. I focused on pushing the pose and on straight versus curvess. Sometimes the pose was not so interesting and I drew the people instead.
Here are some with phoshop makeup yo help the uglyness.
I went out sketching and took some pictures as reference for painting the drawings back in PS. I really didnt think much about composition while drawing. I keep doing that and it always hurts the final thing.
Ill get to do some life dawing soon and I hope that gets juices flowing and I start posting more often.
Here are some links from people at work and some old friends. Lots of talent, check them out.
edit:ok, I dont know wether its blogger or macs or me or what, but I can´t get to post this correctly. So: here are the pics, the links can be found to the right, new ones at the bottom. thanks!
Here´s some work stuff. Early conceptwork for an ad. It took me little time to do these, but I´m actually quite happy about them. The ad ended up looking nothing like this, so this remains a graphic style I´d like to see in movement someday.
I always avoided to include photography in any realistic piece I painted, but the client wanted to see what more detailed enviroments might look like. I painted this in one night, after having spent allready too many hours awake.I used photos and everything at hand to get the job done quickly. There´s lots of thing wrong with this one, but I´m happy I tried and learn some new things along the way.
I had some billing problems with my host and lost my domain as well as the hosting space. So most of the stuff on the blog is down. Im really not having much free time lately so I dont know if Ill have the time to clean up the mess... mierda
Some sketches! I finally manage to find some energy to post something. I started on a new job and it has been draining most of it lately. Im learning a lot here. Ive never been surrounded by so much talent, ever. Its great.
I was in Madrid´s comic conExpocomic recently and well, I didn´t too many interesting things, but it was all worth it, since I got to know the work of Carlos Vermut. I had the chance to speak to him briefly and he seem a really nice and humble guy. Heres a pic of his work, but if you can , get his last comicbook "El Banyan Rojo", published by dibukks.
strong design, beautiful coloring, I just want more.
Late night digital doodle. Practicing values, texture & stuff. Should have really tried to follow a METHOD, but... Theres lots of things wrong with it, but I had fun and learned a few things along the way.
Will soon catch up answering e-mails and comments and will show some pics from an artist that blew my mind in this year's Comic Expo in Madrid.
Wish you all enjoy your holidays with your loved ones.
Long time without updating. Leaving Prague on Friday. Strange to leave after such a long time.
No call from any animation studio yet. I´ll add some new stuff to my showreel and portfolio when I get to Valencia, then I´ll try my luck in Barcelona.
Here are some pics. As I said, this are all just doodles. Should have thought more about what I was doing.
Here are a few sketches I did these last to days. This lasso painting method ïs really great. Im using shapes, forms, to define what Im drawing. First, an interesting silouhette, then see how it plays against/with other shapes. Then just fill the minimum necessary blank spaces. Its really fun. And its all actually doodling. Would be interesting to see how this method works whith a clear goal in mind.
Anyway, heres a teaser, I really have to wait a few days to "reevaluate" this sketches. Im doing them so fast that its almost intoxicating, I dont really know if theyre "good".
Heres an insight into the process.
I like this one for some reason. Looks really rough if you look it up close
These two days have been a blast. Just couldnt stop drawing. Now I started using a different aproach in PS. Im using the lasso tool to select areas, then I paint them with the brush. I got to be quite fast at it, being able to lay shapes down pretty quickly. I tried not to worry to much about getting the "right proportions or shape" in the begining, which led to nice accidental discoveries. It also sometimes happens that you just dont know which way to go with a sketch, so also, instead of choosing one "path" , Id copy paste the image and work in different versions at the same time. It was a really refreshing aproach.
Sorry about the huge filesize on the GIFs, I thought it was the only one everyone with any browser could see them.
While I was drawing I started to think about artists that Id been checking up lately or that left some good impression on me. Artists or books that have influenced what I did these last days.
